The sweet ancestor of the Martini cocktail. The Martinez would have originally been made with gin. Choosing to recreate this classic with vodka instead allows the botanicals in the vermouth to really sing.
SERVES 1
INGREDIENTS
50ml Cornish Vodka
25ml Sweet vermouth
Bar spoon of Maraschino liqueur
Dash of Angostura bitters
Strip of orange peel
Orange peel to garnish
Ice cubes
METHOD
- Combine the first four ingredients in a chilled mixing glass, add ice and stir.
- Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Squeeze the orange peel over the surface of the drink, zest side down, to release the oils, then discard.
- Garnish with a fresh piece of orange peel.
